Indiana Career Apprenticeship Pathway

Building a Pipeline to Promising Futures

INCAP is a new professional education and training pathway that combines classroom education with on-the-job training to prepare high school students and adults for careers through the INCAP Apprenticeship Program (INCAP AP) and the INCAP Career Program (INCAP CP).

A New Path to a Rewarding Career

Hoosiers need more options when deciding what comes next after high school, and a group of Indiana leaders has a plan for creating a new pathway to opportunity.

As an alternative learning route for students, the new pathway will complement the existing high school-to-college pathway and provide new opportunities to tens of thousands of Hoosiers, including many who otherwise may not have opted to attend college or pursue training after high school.

Through INCAP AP, students begin apprenticeships while still in high school and graduate with both a diploma and an industry-recognized credential that opens doors to employment, college, or continued INCAP CP study.

High School to High-Demand

The INCAP Apprenticeship Program (INCAP AP) offers multi-year apprenticeships that begin in high school, combining classroom learning with paid on-the-job training. Students earn an INCAP AP credential that prepares them to begin a career, go to college, or transition to the INCAP Career Program.

Options Lead to Opportunities

The INCAP Career Program (INCAP CP) offers industry-led programs for adults, typically completed while students work part- or full-time. Graduates earn an INCAP CP professional degree which allows them to advance within their current careers, prepare for a new one, or pursue an advanced degree.

Indiana's Industry Talent Association for
Healthcare and Life Sciences

To strengthen Indiana’s talent pipeline, employers must have a unified voice. That’s the role of Industry Talent Associations (ITAs). These collaborative groups are the foundation of the INCAP AP and INCAP CP programs bringing employers together to identify the most critical roles in their sectors, define the knowledge and skills needed for those jobs, and partner with educators to shape curriculum and training.

The first ITAs are focused on sectors with both projected talent shortages and strong support from industry leaders:

As the designated ITA for both life sciences and healthcare, BioCrossroads is uniting employers to define in-demand roles and industry standards for youth and adult training programs. Our work includes:

✓ Identifying priority occupations based on employer demand

✓ Developing real-world “work cases” and defining the knowledge, skills, competencies, and standards needed for each role

✓ Collaborating with educators to determine where and how training should be delivered — whether in schools, in the workplace, or through inter-company training centers

✓ Supporting the creation of paid, multi-year youth apprenticeships and adult training programs

Partnering with educators to create or adapt curriculum and training programs to meet employer needs

Join an Employer Steering Committee

BioCrossroads is convening two employer steering committees, for both healthcare and life sciences.
We’re seeking mid- and executive-level leaders committed to shaping Indiana’s future workforce to join us in this effort across both industries.

To ensure education and training align with the needs of employers, INCAP places industry in a leadership role.
Industry Talent Associations, like BioCrossroads, enable employers to define the occupations, skills, and training required to meet current and future demand.

Life Sciences Industry Talent Association
Led by BioCrossroads, the Life Sciences Employer Council includes Indiana-based life sciences leaders committed to growing the state’s life sciences ecosystem. The Employer Council and related committees are designed to identify and define in-demand occupations in life sciences and collaborate with education partners to create work-based training programs that meet employer needs and provide career opportunities to high school and adult learners.
Healthcare Industry Talent Association
Also led by BioCrossroads, the Healthcare Employer Council brings together Hoosier healthcare leaders to identify priority roles and define the skills necessary for the healthcare workforce. The committee is designed to shape work-based learning models in partnership with educators and training providers, ensuring high school and adult learners are prepared for critical roles across Indiana’s evolving healthcare system.
