Vaccines are one of the hottest topics in the news right now, especially as flu season starts and the development of a vaccine for COVID-19 continues. Indiana has a rich legacy of bringing important vaccines to market. From the polio vaccine, where seven Indiana counties participated in a clinical trial while Eli Lilly and Company raced to mass produce the lifesaving vaccine, to the IU School of medicine playing a critical role in the clinical trials and development of Gardasil, a vaccine for HPV.

As a follow-on to our Indiana Life Sciences Summit on COVID-19, our next Frameworx will provide an overview of the role vaccines play in reducing and eliminating diseases and in reducing the severity of conditions such as HPV, polio and the seasonal flu.

In this session, we will hear from Dr. Virginia A. Caine, Director and Chief Medical Officer of the Marion County Public Health Department.  She’ll be talking about the importance of herd immunity, vaccine rollout plans and the health benefits for the general population.

We’ll also learn more about Indiana’s expertise in vaccine development, the outreach needed for a controversial prevention and a move toward global behavioral acceptance and compliance.
