From Hollywood to high school sports, concussions related to participation in sports and recreation activities have received increased public awareness. Many states and the federal government are implementing programs and policies to effectively prevent and treat the traumatic brain injury, especially among youth.

Indiana is leading this national charge through the work of the Datalys Center for Sports Injury Research and Prevention, a nationally recognized leader in sports injury research and surveillance. Created by BioCrossroads and the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) a decade ago, the Datalys Center has been collecting sports injury and treatment data that has been instrumental in the development of more effective programs, policies, rules, and education aimed at preventing, mitigating, and treating sports injuries more effectively.

In this Frameworx session, Thomas Dompier, President and Lead Epidemiologist at the Datalys Center, will deliver a keynote presentation on the importance of collecting and translating data to prevent and treat sports injuries, especially concussions. Additionally, we’ll hear about strategic partnerships the Datalys Center has engaged in over the years to garner good data and to develop effective programs that have positive implications on outcomes. A panel of industry experts will follow Dompier’s keynote:

  • Steve Alic, Senior Director, Communications, USA Football
  • Dr. Brian Hainline, Chief Medical Officer, Senior Vice President Sport Science Institute, NCAA
  • Dr. Thomas W. McAllister, Albert E. Sterne Professor and Chairman, Department of Psychiatry, Indiana University School of Medicine

Registration and networking begins at 8:00 a.m. followed by the session from 8:30 – 10:00 a.m. Parking is available in the Chase Tower garage off of Pennsylvania Street or on the street level at parking meters.
