DWA Healthcare Communications Group (DWA HCG) has once again demonstrated its commitment to diversity and gender equality by promoting three longtime women leaders. A privately-owned family of companies—Avant Healthcare, AVAIL Meeting and Speaker Bureau Services (AVAIL), and Forefront Collaborative—DWA HCG’s mission is to transform the quality of patient care through healthcare professional medical education.

In the first quarter of 2018, DWA HCG promoted Kat Barrett, Trina Stonner, and Becky Crumley into key executive roles.

Kat Barrett, Chief Operating Officer (COO) of DWA HCG, received her MBA from the University of Kentucky in Lexington. Coming from a major pharmaceutical company where she held a variety of sales and marketing roles, Kat joined Avant Healthcare in 2008 as an Account Executive (AE). Prior to her promotion to COO, Kat was the President of Avant Healthcare. “Kat has truly grown her career at DWA HCG, sprinting from AE to COO in less than 10 years,” said Deborah Wood, CEO and Owner of DWA HCG.

Trina Stonner, President of Avant Healthcare, received her Master of Science in Nursing from Saint Louis University in Missouri. She also came to Avant Healthcare from a major pharmaceutical company where she was a Global Brand Director. Trina joined Avant Healthcare in 2010 as an Executive Director. Before being promoted to President, she was responsible for some of Avant Healthcare’s largest customer accounts as Senior Vice President.

Becky Crumley, Senior Vice President of AVAIL, is a graduate of Indiana University-Purdue University Indianapolis. Becky has spent nearly 18 of more than 20 years in the pharmaceutical industry at DWA HCG. Joining the organization as one of its first Account Executives, she has been instrumental in developing the DWA HCG standard of operational excellence. Prior to this promotion, Becky served as Vice President of Operations where she oversaw Avant Healthcare’s largest portfolio of customer accounts.

Reflecting on their promotions, Wood said “Kat is a natural leader recognized for her operational prowess. She has remarkable followership across all disciplines and is able to generate results in less time than it takes others to generate a conversation.”

“Becky is known for her fun and transparent leadership style, making her a favorite among customers and employees. She has an innate ability to understand the most complex problems and see the answers for our business and our customers’ business.”

“Finally, Trina is that rare combination of marketing, medical, leadership, and loyalty. Her passion for the customer and our ultimate purpose helps drive us to be the best we can be.”

In an age where the gender leadership gap remains prevalent across the corporate sphere in Indiana and the rest of the country, DWA HCG stands out as a leader in supporting women in executive roles. At DWA HCG, women represent 75% of all employees and 57% of all executives. Promoting these accomplished individuals, says Deborah Wood, brings value and experience to clients while also offering inspiration to employees particularly those who are early in their careers.

“At DWA HCG, we foster an environment where women are supported in their pursuit of leadership roles,” said Wood. “As an organization, we aggressively support gender equality and work-life balance. Managing children, family, and household demands can be an obstacle to career growth for both men and women. By prioritizing work-life balance, we empower all of our employees to reach personal and professional goals.”

DWA HCG ranks among the top 25 women-owned businesses in Indiana and is certified by the Women’s Business Enterprise National Council.
