INDIANAPOLIS, Ind., August 6, 2015— BioCrossroads announces that Darren Carroll, Senior Vice President of Corporate Business Development for Eli Lilly and Company, has been elected as Chairman of the Board of Directors. Carroll succeeds Len Betley (recently retired Chairman and President of the Richard M. Fairbanks Foundation), who will continue to serve as an elected member of the BioCrossroads board.

“BioCrossroads has been fortunate from the start to be led by distinguished and influential Board chairs, and Darren will certainly advance that legacy through his first-hand experience at the front lines of this industry’s 21st Century development,” said David L. Johnson, President and CEO of BioCrossroads.

In addition to serving on the BioCrossroads Board of Directors and the BioCrossroads Executive Committee for the past five years, Carroll has been with Eli Lilly and Company for 18 years developing and leading many successful business models including e-Lilly, Innocentive, Lilly Ventures and Lilly Asia Ventures. Carroll has also been a board member of eight venture-backed companies in the US and Asia.  In his current role, Carroll is responsible for all strategic corporate transactions including mergers and acquisitions, joint ventures, business collaborations, private equity investments, and out-partnering.

In addition to the election of Carroll, three other new members have been elected to the BioCrossroads board:

  • Claire Fiddian-Green, President and Chief Executive Officer of the Richard M. Fairbanks Foundation, (also elected as a member of the BioCrossroads Executive Committee)
  • Gregory Swanberg, Chief Executive Officer of BioStorage Technologies and;
  • Micah Vincent, Director of Office Management and Budget for the State of Indiana.

“BioCrossroads has been successful thanks to a constantly engaged and diversely talented Board of Directors, drawn from the leadership of industry and our community, and that tradition also continues with each of our new members announced today,” continued Johnson.
