Purdue University has strong ties to the life sciences community of Indiana.  Purdue has developed its life science and bioscience strengths on the areas of biomedical engineering, pharmacy, nanotechnology, agriculture, analytical chemistry, instrumentation, supply-chain management and veterinary medicine. Purdue’s School of Pharmacy is the second largest in the U.S. with internationally renowned engineering and technology programs. Purdue is also home to one of the top analytical chemistry programs in the U.S.
 
The new $25 million Martin C. Jischke Hall of Biomedical Engineering, the first of its kind in Indiana, has allowed Purdue to expand its department of biomedical engineering into a full-fledged graduate school and also to offer a comprehensive undergraduate program in biomedical engineering.
 
Purdue’s Discovery Park, launched in 2001 with a $5 million commitment from the state of Indiana, has grown into a $400 million research and learning complex of 11 dynamic centers. Seven centers are housed in four new buildings that offering leading advanced research facilities, including the $58 million Birck Nanotechnology Center and the $12 million Bindley Bioscience Center.
 
Purdue also is home to a new Alfred Mann Institute for Biomedical Development, endowed by the Alfred Mann Foundation to enable expedited commercialization of selected innovative biomedical technologies that improve human health.
