Work in Progress
FlowCo and ImmuneWorks are just two examples of the companies that have been funded by BioCrossroads' Indiana Seed Fund. The following brief case studies describe the ways BioCrossroads has helped the companies advance their ideas.
FlowCo
FlowCo has developed the LumenRECON system – a console and catheter-based device that uses electricity to map blood vessels and arterial disease. A breakthrough product in interventional cardiology procedures, FlowCo’s device provides a unique way of measuring and positioning life-saving stents to clear blocked arteries. BioCrossroads aided Dr. Ghassan Kassab, a biomedical engineer and inventor of LumenRECON, in the business planning for taking the product to market and made the first investment of $250,000 in FlowCo through the Indiana Seed Fund I. In addition, BioCrossroads advised the company on its patents/intellectual property strategy and linked them to additional sources of funding.
ImmuneWorks
Groundbreaking research is advancing ImmuneWorks, an Indianapolis-based biotechnology company, in the development of treatments for serious lung diseases, including idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis (IPF), a devastating chronic lung disease that currently is taking the lives of more than 40,000 people a year. BioCrossroads originally encouraged the founding researchers, Drs. David Wilkes and Michael Klemsz, to bring their product to market, start the company and collaborate with other biotech companies. BioCrossroads also invested $300,000 in ImmuneWorks from the Indiana Seed Fund I, and helped them network with venture capital firms and a large biotech company.
